Principles and criteria

Photo: Kimmo SalminenPhoto: Kimmo SalminenThe PAN Parks Principles and Criteria (P&C) was born as the “brainchild” of a consultative teamwork involving WWF offices, several protected areas and several other NGOs. The Principles and Criteria were field-tested in 17 protected areas in Europe, spanning 14 countries. This comprehensive assessment has allowed the PAN Parks organisation to test the reality of the Principles and Criteria on the ground.

Verification guide

Photo: Orsolya HaarbergPhoto: Orsolya HaarbergA park becomes certified following verification which is carried out by a team of independent experts, in accord with PAN Parks Principles, Criteria & Indicators (P&C). The P&C form the core of the PAN Parks project. The five PAN Parks principles ensure high standards of management for both conservation and sustainable development. Principles allow for objective verification and transparency.
